I cannot understand what happen to Mayor Mike's priority. While hearing him proudly announcing his propensity to win more votes from the group of senior citizens who now reached a record 50,000 members in Cebu City during his SOCA (State Of City Address), where he pledged to give P10,000 to each member in 2013, we just come to know of the latest plight of the Mahiga Creek settlers who are obliged to live in the temporary dwelling located at city-owned Block 27 in Northern Reclamation Area (NRA) as a result of the demolition of their houses (ordered by Mayor Mike) located within the prohibited proximity  area from the river. 

In a privilege speech delivered by City Councilor Alvin Dizon at the city council regular session yesterday, he accused the executive department of maltreating the Mahiga Creek settlers by treating them, in the comparison given by Dizon, as lesser than how they treat the animals where Cebu City got international recognition for its humane treatment of animals from the Humane Society International in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. What triggered him (Dizon) to expose the maltreatment foisted by Mayor Mike's henchman Alvin Santillana, operation officer of Cebu City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC) on the hapless Mahiga Creek settlers was his (Santillana's) wanton disregard and inhuman insult heaped upon the poor dwellers who have nothing more to go because they had already been stripped of their dignity by Mayor Mike's inhuman treatment many months before. 

If councilor Dizon were to make a choice, he would rather want to be called "pro-poor" than getting international recognition for "treating animals humanely." Perhaps, finding the charges leveled at Santillana as something bad to boomerang to his leadership, Mayor Mike promised to fire him (Santillana) if found true.
