With due respect to Mr. Neal Cruz, let's set the record straight. Your attempt to deodorize Miguel Zubiri with his "ethical" resignation from the Senate last year, is obvious. Though I can't fault you for that. Miguel Zubiri is abundant in something Koko Pimentel is so scarce: Charisma. Migs is indeed charming and amiable. (This is Migs' asset that might, indeed, win for him votes of some people who may not care to think about Migs' political conduct.) To his credit, he worked hard in the Senate, sponsored a number of bills for all of the four years he sat as senator.  But none of this traits of Zubiri are the issue. 

His resignation from the senate was NOT ethical-at-all- or an act deemed ethical. First, let's recall that Zubiri was a loyal ally of Gloria Arroyo. Miguel helped propped up Gloria's illegal regime and never at all deserted Gloria's camp if only for principle, as decent politicians should do in the face of evil - palpable-evil unfolding right before you. But no. Miguel stuck it out with Gloria, whose Team Unity helped cheat for Miguel - and cheat massively in Mindanao. (Remember how Benjamin Abalos figured in that cheating, helped in no small measure by Lintang Bedol and Hermogenes Esperon, Gloria's AFP Chief of Staff who operated the elections in Mindanao, where Chavit Singson from Ilocos topped the polls there, and where the opposition candidates got LITERALLY ZERO VOTES. Incredible by stretch of the imagination.) That is no way ethical Mr. Cruz. Against this backdrop, Miguel Zubiri insisted he won over Koko. 

Decent people, including Conrado de Quiroz, counseled Miguel as early as 2007 to decline that seat in the senate; or when he was already sworn in, to give up his post and give it to the rightful winner, who was Koko. But no, Miguel brazened it out like a leech, junked all basic sense of honor and decency, a trait so common to his erstwhile patroness Gloria Arroyo, but whom Miguel has now abandoned by defecting to UNA Coalition. Moreover, Miguel did everything, moved heaven and earth to frustrate Koko's protest at the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET). It was only when he finally realized he was going to lose it in the recount by the SET that he decided to resign from the Senate. AND BY THEN HE HAD THE TEMERITY, THE GALL TO FAKE HIS POSTURING, BY PACKAGING HIS RESIGNATION AS AN ACT OF HONOR! Zubiri deceived the public! Zubiri did not resign out of honor Mr. Cruz. He resigned because HE HAD NO MORE OPTION! 

The SET recount showed he lost to Koko! Miguel is not accused by Koko of cheating, he is charged by Koko of stealing from the latter a position that belonged rightfully to him, NOT to Miguel! And you call Miguel ethical, Mr. Cruz? And mind you, never for once, did Zubiri ask Koko for forgiveness, never for once did Miguel recognize he was a beneficiary of fraud. For four years, Zubiri enjoyed the appellation SENATOR JUAN MIGUEL FERNANDEZ ZUBIRI, even  if he knew all along - as the facts bore it out, before, during and after the elections - that honor belonged to Koko Pimentel. You don't call that ethical Mr. Cruz. You call that shameful. You don't call Miguel honorable, Mr. Cruz, you call him shameless and so the voting public may know the score - the real score.

This is not the first time you have shown your "skill" in dissecting a controversial issue in "flying colors." I am happy that independent minded people who nurture the same sentiment like you did, find in your "pen" the unerring wisdom to articulate in all honesty and candor the presentation of the the "real story" behind the resignation of Migs from the Senate. Few people could remember how CDQ advised Migs not to accept his seat in the senate, and this portion alone re-enforces the argument that Migs could not belie the fact that he played his role with his fingers "stuck in the mud" of irredeemable shame and loss of prestige. Like what the other guy has suggested, I too would recommend that your highly valuable contribution in this discussion deserves a place in PDI opinion column.
