Kaban ni D_BystandeR: SULUNDON ANG MAAYONG BUHAT
This is the most "heart-wrenching story" I've ever come across in my life, thanks to the help from Sunstar news reporter Rebelander S. Basilan, this otherwise insignificant tale of the "poorest of the poor" came to light because of the reporter's personal judgment to write on this kind of event to prove that this is news-worthy after all. Right from the very beginning, the couple whose wife just gave birth to quadruplets, is a picture of how life in all its intricacies is subjected to a rigid test of fate and its ability to survive under a worst-case scenario. Leaving their three young children in one of the mountain barangays of Argao, the father's concern of their plight left with only 10 kilos rice and half kilo of dried fish is quite maddening. The emergency trip aboard the hospital's ambulance from Argao to Cebu City at VSMMC Hospital is an odyssey to tell. A doctor in Argao hospital, with a "big and kind heart" lent him P1,000 where he used P900 of it to pay for the ambulance trip. That trip alone saved the lives of four young souls who would just have to be added to the long list of "ill-fated ones" were they not able to make it to VSMMC hospital on time.
I remember one time when our daughter in the Philippines (Cebu) was about to graduate her teaching course in USJR way back in 2005, she had a classmate who out of financial difficulty could not pay her school obligation and could not have graduated along with them, when informed of that situation my wife told our daughter to withdraw from our savings account in a local bank to defray her school obligation so she can graduate with them. For that saving act, we received a letter from her classmate expressing her "thanks" to our kind gesture and we were already happy about it.
There are really inexplicable things and realities in life that will challenge your conscience to do more for the good of others, if at all within your capabilities. For all the good things that you have done to your fellowmen there is Somebody up there who will give a rundown of what you have done to your neighbor in their time of need. And to think you accomplished it is most rewarding to you, the giver.
