What makes this column of "Sir Bob" interesting to read sometimes is that it touches on some of the "burning issues" of the day like the "suroy-suroy sa Sugbo" spearheaded by no less than Gov. Gwen. I heard from a friend of mine that his wife has already gone twice with this "suroy-suroy" when she was in her "balikbayan trip" in Cebu and that it was really enjoyable and the "eating spree" is "makabusdik." But I didn't know that some if not all of the LGU's concerned are treating it like a "sore in the thumb" because there is no financial assistance shelled out by the Provincial Government for sponsoring that kind of program except that one can expect a "tongue lashing" from the Governor if he or she fails to cooperate like what happened to Daanbantayan Mayor Loot who "cried a tear" when she was called "baga'g nawong" by Gov. Gwen. But she was quick to explain it to the media that it's okay with her to be called "baga'g nawong" because it's not like the Governor's face which is "retokada," meaning, "artificially enhanced." From the info supplied by Bobby it looks like the LGU's are practicing mendicancy by asking their patrons to "donate" something every time they have their turn to stage the "suroy-suroy." And this job is not easy because in some instances you have to exert a little "arm-twisting" to prod those who are considered "not very cooperative." And just imagine some town officials taking something from their own pockets to pay for some "shortages" if the funds collected is not enough to pay for everything. And I can just say Junjun Davide is a man to admire in his "pledge" to discontinue that "suroy-suroy" program once he becomes elected governor in next year's elections in view of the foregoing reasons. And to think, in retrospection, that all of these boil down to something which was to promote the image of Gov. Gwen to make her popular not only in the city and province of Cebu but with far-reaching effect as she was earlier obsessed in her plan to try her luck in the national election as one of the senatoriables to watch. But that plan fizzled out when she noticed her chances to win as appearing in the national poll surveys appeared negative. 

That's why, for reason of self-preservation in the face of an impending defeat if she insisted to try her luck in a bigger national arena she changed her mind and swallowed her pride by going to a more logical "fall-back" position to run as congresswoman in the 3rd District.
