Kaban ni D_BystandeR: DILI MABANGBANG ANG KAPUNGOT NI MIRIAM SA GIDUMTAN NIYANG TIGULANG
I find the furious "blast"
of Miriam Defensor Santiago against JPE (Enrile) as expected because she has always shown in every opportunity that
she can find an opening for her fury to castigate Enrile not to let it pass but
to make it "big and most hurting" against the sickly, 91-year-old legislator.
Mercy is out of the picture, even if he is already looking too fragile to stand
a court trial, i.e., if we are to consider that during his "heydays"
he has caused his "powerful hand" to send countless people to their
graves at a time when he became the second-most-powerful man in the country
during the Marcos dictatorship. But I find Miriam's contention not strong enough
if she is to equate the granting of "house arrest" unfair to GMA, who
was herself an Ex-President, compared to only a Senate President. The quality
of mercy is not defined according to the
kind of position the man or woman had previously occupied, whether he or she was a "king or a queen" in their
own right, but it is defined according to the wisdom in meting out the kind of
punishment commensurate to the transgression he or she has been found
criminally liable. In my take, both of them do not qualify for a house arrest.
If we already knew of so many who died
or rot in jail, why make the two personalities the exception?
