Kaban ni D_BystandeR: CCMC BIYAAN NA SA MGA MANANAMBAL?
This was the outcome of a
"lightning decision" reached by Mayor Mike Rama immediately after the
earthquake struck the CCMC building more than a year ago. Against the clamor of
some well-meaning members of the City Council, probably mostly from BOPK that
the repair work be adopted against the idea of totally demolishing it to be
replaced with a huge buillding, Mayor Mike proudly preferred the latter. The
rough estimate that I remember, correct me if I'm wrong, to upgrade and
reinforce the concrete beams of the building would be P20M, more or less. But Mayor Mike would not
listen to them. It would have been better if the repair of the building was
decided so that the abrupt change to a Level I category of the hospital could
be avoided thus, the status of the old CCMC could have been preserved. Now, as
a result, doctors are rumored to be tendering their resignations and that is
expectedbecause with a previous capacity of 300 patients the hospital was
capable to handle, now it has been direly reduced and downgraded to 108
patients, and with it goes the loss of some perks that CCMC used to enjoy.
