D_BystandeR:
This is a rare biography of a very
distinguished and a hard-to-find breed of a woman in the person of Cecile
Guidote-Alvarez, a 1972 Ramon Magsaysay awardee, whose exploits during the
critical period of Marcos dictatorship could be easily credited with success like
a "one-in-a million" story. And the breath-taking odyssey that finally
resulted to her daring success to pull out a plan, despite the highly
entrenched martial rule apparatus at work at that time, to be able to connect
to her beloved soul-mate Sonny Alvarez, who was able to get out of the country
earlier less than two months after the declaration of martial law on September
21, 1972, in a highly suspenseful act that only a lady of her caliber, with the
fierceness of an untamed lion and with a remarkable and unyielding valor of a
determined achiever of "nearly impossible" things can do it. She
should be highly commended for that.
(Note: The father of Sonny Alvarez,
who would later on be elected as a Senator during Cory's presidency, died of
heart attack when Sonny's younger brother, Marsman, died at the hands of his
tormentor to force him to give the whereabouts of his brother. Marsman's head
was bashed, his eyes gouged, and his body was dumped inside the churchyard of Santiago,
Isabela in Nueva Ecija. This was among the horrible things that took place
during FM's martial law regime.)
