Kaban ni D_BystandeR: KINSA MAN KINI SI CACOY CAÑETE???
I really admit, his name - Cacoy
Canete - is a byword in a famous martial arts that he perfected and promoted
around the world through his ardent followers, as far as people who value the art
of self-defense is concerned. I can still remember, there was a time, probably
in the 1970's where a news about somebody who also mastered the same craft of
martial arts, his nickname only I remember - Ising (I forgot his last name) -
perhaps due to the passage of so many years. But I knew that man because I was
able to talk to him, in one way or another, and his job was that of a security
guard working under one of the leading security agencies at that time.Their
controversy grew out fast because it deals with "who's who" in that
kind of manly "macho" fame. But when the time for them to make a showdown
came, it was the side of Ising who made that now unforgettable
"excuse" because it was found out before the start of their
tournament that Ising has his blood pressure shooting "through the
roofs," and it was deemed not advisable to continue the much awaited bout
between the "2" considered as the top Grand Masters of their time.
And from that time on, after that failed match, the talk about the 2 fighters
making a showdown slowly died down. And I did not hear anything about Ising
since then. And, probably, Ising has already answered the call of our Creator
considering that he has a confirmed problem about his "BP" (blood pressure).
And now I am still glad and thankful to have my knowledge updated about that great Grand Master Cacoy Canete
through a Facebook story penned by my idol Mayor Tommy Osmena, who also
considered Cacoy as his good friend, And when Tommy met Cacoy's son, Miko,
coincidentally during the Sinulog and learned that the old man was confined in
Chong Hua Hospital, he lost no time to pay him a visit. The great Grand Master of Doce
Pares in Cebu City finally joined our Creator last Friday, February 5, 2016 and
we are thankful to Mayor Tommy for providing us this very important message
about the passing away of Cacoy Canete, the greatest Grand Master of Doce Pares
in Cebu City.
Footnote: This
comment came out in connection with a story I read in FB about Cacoy Canete,
the acknowledged Grand Master of Doce Pares in Cebu City written by Mayor Tommy
Osmena in Facebook. It came out on February 7, 2016.
