Kaban ni D_BystandeR: ANGAYANG TABANGAN ANG MGA PURDOY
If
Mayor Mike Rama has done something positive for the sidewalk vendors that is
big news for us. But for him to approve of the "punishment" to
sidewalk vendors for three days, meaning – they cannot be allowed to display
their wares in their usual spot - that's something hard to imagine! If the
vendors' family can afford to also stop eating for three days, that punishment
is okay. But we know that vendors are
like in Tagalog lingo - "isang kahig, isang tuka," ug sa atong
pinulongan, mga "kakha-tuka." Since when did we hear that Mayor
Mike's heart bleeds for the poor?
In
all punitive campaign against the poor in the city, Mike Rama is always on top of
it! He doesn't need to approve it. His mind is endlessly capable of doing
something to make it hard for the poor to make a living in the city. And we are
complaining that criminality is on the "upsurge?" - forget about it.
There are people who try to make a living out of making it subscribed to the
normal way we expect it to be without making it a big problem to others but we
have some of our city leaders who refuse to understand that not all people
living in the city are rich. And that they also need a little help and
understanding for them to survive the economic hardships we all face.
