Kaban ni D_BystandeR: BAG-O NA ANG LIDERATO SA ALU
I can hardly fathom the extent of
their being divided at a time when they have already spent a great deal of
their lives in creating a giant labor union founded by Kito Mendoza. At the age
of 91, nobody can still claim he is in the best control of his personal and
mental well-being to manage a giant labor union. It should have been a passionate
way to imagine the passing of the
"torch" from Kito Mendoza to Boy Herrera but only because of some
"unseen hands" that were trying to prevent a smooth turnover of the "torch" by probably putting a
wedge between the two to make the turnover
a failure and ultimately reached the Supreme Court for a decision that gave the
key to Boy Herrera to lead the labor union giant. I've seen Kito Mendoza in my
younger days when I was still working in a local shipping lines of a private company where we
ultimately succeeded in joining ALU in
the early 70's and I have seen the other big personalities like Atty. Cecilio
Seno and later Boy Herrera and they were very energetic in the way they led the union into what has now
become a big labor union. And my only wish is that these two great leaders,
Kito Mendoza and Boy Herrera could
finally find the resumption of their old companionship and camaraderie by smoking the proverbial peace
peace pipe, if not here, maybe in the
world hereafter.
