Kaban ni D_BystandeR: UNANG EDSA GIHULAGWAY SA HANITING PANULAT NI PHILIP LUSTRE JR.
I appreciate the mastery in writing
articles shown by the author, Philip M. Lustre Jr., where some of the important
details of that history moment in EDSA I revolution not reported earlier in the
media are now seen coming out in a convincing manner of reporting where he was
able to supply the actual conversation between the fallen dictator and the Republican U.S.
Senator Paul Laxalt, who was a member of the bipartisan group of American lawmakers,
who served as Observers in the February
7 snap elections of 1986. It was an achievement by the author to behold that
after the lapse of 29 years since the triumph of EDSA I, still he is able to
print showing a vivid picture through his pen of what actually transpired in
that historic moment. It was an unforgettable chapter of the country's history,
where it was able to free itself from the shackles of martial rule under Marcos
Dictatorship where everybody was living in fear for the unimaginable abuse
through horrible human rights violations. It was a day where everybody was
enveloped with an atmosphere of euphoria, everybody was a picture of somewhat like a man
who just newly acquired his long lost freedom and this was all brought about by
the assumption of "people power" through the leadership of the iconic
President Cory Aquino. The feeling itself that we were no longer ruled by Marcos was like a
soothing balm of wholesome satisfaction that everybody enjoyed except for the
Marcos loyalists who lost their fallen leader in the person of Dictator
Ferdinand Edralin Marcos. And the loyalists were seen at this time retreating to the corner as they
have already lost their military firepower of the dictatorship who ruled the
country for a period of 20 years in an iron grip of a ruthless man who was
drunk with unlimited power to suck all the treasures of the country and hid it in Swiss banks. But
Filipinos have short memory because they have allowed the Marcoses back in our country
to slowly regain their political stronghold
in the Solid North of Ilocos region. But I only hope Senator Bonbong Marcos
will not be driven by the thirst of greed of unlimited power like what his father did when he envisioned himself as
president for life in the Philippines. The way Bongbong carries himself in the
Senate is within the acceptable stride that any worthy senator worth his salt will do. And
I appreciate the way he demanded from
P-Noy that his BFF Purisima be charged in court for his involvement in the Mamasapano massacre that claimed the lives of our 44 SAF
commandos. Bongbong is so far doing the right thing and with his potential
brilliance shown in the way he carries himself in legislative deliberations he
could be somebody that holds the key in
the future that could provide a breakthrough for all the problems that our
country is facing today.
