Kaban ni D_BystandeR: NAGKANGITNGIT ANG GIPADULNGAN SA MGA BAKWIT

There were times The FREEMAN editorial lacked the sincerity in crystallizing the central idea of a given issue to adequately help in molding a reasonable public opinion and unexpectedly it could provoke my pen to fiercely refute and react to what I consider a blatant mistake.

But in this case, where the idea was held in favor of the pathetic situation of Typhoon Yolanda victims who are reported in the news that their days of stay in the Tent City at SRP, Cebu City are already numbered - they are only up to March 23 – whether they like it or not! The editorial questions whether it is morally sound to send them home to Tacloban City especially that they have nothing to go when they reached their destination because their homes were totally wiped out by the typhoon. And besides, the fear they cannot yank out of their mind - and that's a reality! - that whatever slight weather disturbances observed will unavoidably cause them to tremble in fear because of that traumatic experience they had associated with the devastating effects of that monster typhoon. Perhaps, extending a little time for them to be able to earn a little that would be modestly enough for their family to meet or defray for minor expenses along the way would have been better.

But the city government under Mayor Mike Rama, just like in the way he usually treats the city's informal settlers where he has a little patience for them, is now so in a hurry to send them home four months after the Typhoon Yolanda struck last November 8, 2013, as if the temporary shelter built for them is now about to be taken by another set of "imagined evacuees" that's already waiting in the pipeline and that's why they do not seem to have the heart to give them enough extension time?
