Kaban ni D_BystandeR: NAGLANOGLANOG ANG TINGOG NI MAYOR ESGANA SA PAGPROTEHER SA KABAYBAYONAN
I
read the news in its entirety and reading it between the lines, I know that
Santa Fe Mayor Jose Esgana is only voicing out a valid argument about how true sea
erosion is and how destructive it can be if nothing is done to prevent it from
happening. I personally know it because
my parents' house during my early teens was
located in one of the coastal towns near Pagadian City. And without the efforts
exerted by the foreshore lease owner, his property will surely suffer sea
erosion and will soon be out of sight and he will not be able to enjoy the
25-year-period of the lease if he will just simply fold up his hands and do
nothing to prevent it from happening. The impractical adherence of DENR to cling to its outdated policy has recently been
the subject of a legal controversy in Argao, Cebu where the town Mayor Galeos
acceded to the earnest request of his constituents
from a mountain barangay to make a mountain
trail traversing a forested area which the DENR strongly protested. And this
came to a point where even Cebu Governor
Jun Davide has to give his views to advise and propose a deal to make the
conflict be resolvedin a friendly settlement and reconciliation by saying that DENR
has to somehow rationalize its policy in view of the recent developments and
realities coming out which clearly runs counter to the relevant needs of the
people in that community.

This comment came out in connection with a Cebu Daily News headline,
"Santa Fe mayor defends Marlin's Resort against DENR demolition threat;
German owner says new beach deck is only 'temporary'."
