If
we can make it mandatory for passenger jeepney drivers and others who feel
obliged to follow the random drug test performed on them on the road to ferret
out drug users who could endanger the lives of their passengers when driving under the
influence of illegal drugs, how much more for elected officials in the City
Hall if there is a governing requirement through a resolution passed and
approved by the City Council.
It
will be too presumptuous for anybody to consider his present highest elected
position as a valid reason for him to think that he is "above the
law." Although Mayor Mike has finally submitted himself to drug test
keeping the result "highly confidential" to the media could defeat the
very reason why it should be divulged to the public, no matter what. Making the
result "wrapped in secrecy" will create a hollow meaning of the objective
of the drug test because those who are at present "enslaved" by the illegal drug will still continue their
nefarious habit because there is nothing to worry about and nothing can stop
them and they will continue to shamelessly pretend they are "drug-free"
when in reality they are not.
