Kaban ni D_BystandeR: SINUKLIAY SA HUNAHUNA

Note: This is the comment from a certain "jurbinsky77" regarding the present development in JBC in connection with the making of a short list for the President to handpick which of the three in the short list will be chosen as the next CJ of the SC. Below it is my rejoinder articulating my views.

"jurbinsky77" - After all had been said and done, the character of the CJ is the only important thing that should have been considered in the selection process. Filipinos are too much engrossed in useless politics. You are too encumbered by legalities that would not help the country in re-establishing the rule of law and propriety. Fiscals are corrupt, judges are corrupt and justices are mostly corrupt. And ordinary Filipinos are morally weak and easily corrupted. Before Marcos, teachers were respected as well as government officials, the military and the police. At present, everyone is easily tempted to get things that do not belong to them. The lure of easy money subverts honor and integrity. Prostitutes walk the streets as if they have better existence than an honest but poor government employee. What a pathetic state of the nation. Can we not choose the high road and re-claim your personal honor which you lost because of moral perfidy?

"D-BystandeR" - I fully agree to the wisdom of your thoughs that so much concern is given to the legalities of the issue rather than the most important "inner" component of the prospective nominee - his or her character should be considered as the deciding factor. Conrado De Quiroz (CDQ), whom I consider as one of the best PDI opinion maker has undoubtedly pointed out that our lawyers are known not for their unbiased defense in the name of "truth" or their unquestioned embrace to protect the sanctity of "justice" in the real sense but to promote as its primordial concern to twist it by articulating in the name of justice and truth to advance what it considers its own "selfish" interest. In several instances, it has been proven that strict observance to the legal procedure has defeated the real meaning of how justice should have been observed and practiced. Look at the case of the "Vizconde massacre" which after the lapse of so many years, when people have already considered it solved and closed, in just a wink of an eye, the Supreme Court has rendered the conviction of the accused a big joke by reversing their conviction and setting them free.
