Amid the heating up of the issue on the corruption in the Judiciary, one of the alleged suspects in the controversy was confirmed to have already left the Philippines.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Sigfried Mison confirmed that Arlene Angeles Lerma left the country on Oct. 16. Mison said Lerma travelled through a Philippine Airlines flight bound to an Asian country he did not identify.  Lerma is one of the three "Ma'am Arlenes" now subjects of investigation for their alleged influence among judges of the Regional Trial Courts and justices of the Court of Appeals. One of the three "Ma'am Arlenes" was purportedly involved in the outcome of the October 9, 2013 elections of officials of the Philippine Judges Association (PJA).

Lerma allegedly underwent medical treatment and for the past two to three months, she often travelled back and forth to the country for medical treatment. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) earlier had formed a teamwho will handle the investigation into the issue of "Ma'am Arlene" who is allegedly influential among lower court judges and justices of the Court of Appeals. According to NBI officer-in-charge Medardo de Lemos, the group is  composed of members from different divisions of the  bureau, including the Special Task Force, Intelligence. Anti-Fraud and Anti-Graft. De Lemos said the investigation will focus on the credibility of the PJA and the angle of  "case fixing."

 He added they will also investigate the identity of a certain "Ma'am Arlene" who is said to be influencing the decision of the judges in exchange for monetary consideration. De Lemos also confirmed the meeting between him and SC Associate Justice Marvic Leonen took place Friday.  Leonen was tasked by the SC en banc to head a committee in the Judiciary who will lead in the investigation into the alleged corruption in the Judiciary. Two retired justices of the SC will be members of the committee.
