Kaban ni D_BystandeR: TALIWALA SA LIBOAN KA KATABRAHOAN, PABILIN'G HUNGAW ANG KADAGHANAN
The Kapamilya Overseas Job Fair was recently exhibiting a Job Fair in Abellana National School. The Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) headed by Fidel Magno revealed that out of 1,729 applicants being interviewed, 905 males and 824 females, no one was "hired-on-the-spot" (HOTS).
Overall there were more than 20,000 jobs offered by 37 placement agencies. In the Visayas area, where ABS-CBN helped Department of Labor and Employ-ment (DOLE) to organize local and overseas job fairs in cities like, Tacloban, Bacolod and Iloilo there was a total number of 8,401 applicants registered and close to 80,000 jobs offered but only 607 or 7% qualified the HOTS (hired on the spot). The sad state was immediately trumpeted by DOLE and Malacanang to brag that there are plenty of jobs offered than the number of qualified applicants. And this, to push through with the claim that in contrast to complaint from labor sectors that not enough jobs are available, many job opportunities are created by the improving economy and that only job applicants were lacking in number to meet the demand.
Magno, considered as expert in job fairs explained the greatest purpose is to find -HOTS - that applicants in job fairs will get instant jobs and to start working immediately. The lack of HOTS last May 1 and the strict criteria to accept job applicants could mean: (1) Employers applied very strict criteria to accept applicants. There are employers who accept only those belonging to age brackets 21 to 25, and if you are above 25 even if you qualify you're not accepted; (2) That most or majority of applicants are not qualified. There are those applying for computer-literate jobs that failed in the interview, they are referred to TESDA. Around 83 were referred for livelihood assistance for self-employment; (3) That there is a big gap between the courses offered in schools and the requirements set up by companies to qualify them for jobs. Magno and other organizers of Job Fairs telling us there is a mismatch in the applicants qualifications and the criteria needed by accepting companies does not promote any good news for the government.

The failure of schools meeting the needs of companies to hire prospective applicants do not speak well for President Aquino who is occupying his post in Malacanang for three years now and does not provide a convincing proof of offering jobs to the jobless.
