KALIGDONG MAS MAAYO KAYSA GASTONG MAKALIPONG

There is no sense why a City Hall will have to be built in such a huge amount of P800M. There is an ocean of opportunity to bring about the needed services to the people. Certainly, pompous construction of a high-rise building does not augur well to send signals to the constituents  that what you are intending to do will redound to their welfare and interest. Sufficient food supplies, better place to live in with maximum protection from criminal elements, improvement of government hospital facilities and improved environment for workers and job-seekers account for the much bigger challenge that requires microscopic attention of the city leaders.

It's not that we diminish the legacy which Mayor Jonas Cortez  intends to leave behind his constituents by  marking   his  last term  with an exclamation point  but more apropos is taking into consideration the consequential question mark that comes along with the growing uneasiness of the cost. Sterling performance characterized by sound financial management and efficient administration count better and still appear to be more responsive than wanton spending.

Mandaue city is in dire need of face-lifting. Looking around at all nooks and crannies of the city, we can easily detect the larger picture of the needs and wants.

I find this a nice commentary in the face of a news that heralded the City of Mandaue is embarking on an ambitious plan to erect a 23-storey building to house its city hall which at the moment City Mayor Jonas Cortez finds not enough to accommodate its 36 departments. I forget when the construction starts for what is considered pressing matter now is to look for a bank creditor that can give them bigger amount and lowest offer of interest rates for the projected P800 million worth project. The construction is expected to be completed by 2016. And that the first two floors will be set aside for business establishments probably intended to help pay the bill to creditors. But the idea of Jonas Cortez to do such a highly ambitious plan do not not jibe well with the succeeding administration who is expected to foot the bill when he is no longer in office after his 3rd term expires. Man once again is showing how incompetent is he in determining where the central problem lies. The number one problem that looks elusive to the incumbent city mayor is how to keep the problem of the poor residents who direly need to have roof on their heads in the face of burgeoning economic difficulties. And not to be outdone is how to control criminality so the city residents can work freely and sleep at night peacefully without being bothered by criminal elements.
