Commission On Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. rejected calls that he resign from his post over the purge of the party-list system. This, as the Comelec continued to work  on the cancellation of the accreditation of party-list groups that do not meet the requirements of the law.  Brillantes encouraged those whose accreditation the poll body already cancelled to just seek relief from the Supreme Court. He maintained that the Comelec has a motu propio authority to review existing registrations, noting that groups have to file their manifestation to participate in each election.  Brillantes and the rest of the commission will again deliberate on the fate of existing party-list applicants on Wednesday.  Last week, Ako Bicol and the ICare party-list groups went to the Supreme Court to question the Comelec's move to cancel their accreditations. 

Brillantes noted APEC may also appeal its case before the high court. Brillantes also assured the presence of the poll body's officials in a Senate committee hearing on amendments to the party-list law and proposed bills against political dynasties.
