We are lucky some of our countrymen are making landmark achievements in various fields of endeavor, like Manny Pacquiao, our world boxing icon, which make us proud of our race. But others who are not careful and employed some dirty tricks with those they are dealing with, give us a "black eye." This is what happened to a caregiver, Carmelita Pasamba of Chicago, a certified nursing assistant who is now facing charges of stealing more than $500T from a 94-year old elderly named Marshal Davies who is suffering from severe dementia. CBS TV Channel 2 investigator Pan Zekman reports the incident as one of the worst cases ever handled by the Cook County Public Guardians Office. Among the worst exploiters are caregivers who steal from the seniors they are supposed to care for. 

The caregiver sought the legal services of a Filipino lawyer, Al Bascos with office located in Jose Rizal Heritage Building in 1332 W. Irving Park, Chicago and asked that the old man's will be changed giving her caregiver power of attorney over his estates. Not long after, the caregiver would be withdrawing such amount of $50T in several instances. When she completed the sale of the old man's condo unit for $189T she set aside $50T for herself as her "bonus" from the proceeds. Records show Pasamba withdrew $10T as down payment for a new $50T Mercedez Bens car. She also wrote checks for her daughter's tuition and for her son's dance studio.Aside from the salary that her sister, Jocelyn Baker, receives also as caretaker she also got $20T used to remodel her apartment and buy furnishings. The FACC (Filipino American Council of Chicago) to which the lawyer, Al Bascos is connected also received $20T from the old man's money. Pasamba called the money she took from Davies as "loans" and that he approved it all. Assistant Public Guardian  James Burton said that his office is now trying to recover the money "stolen" from the old man. "Essentially Mr Davies was their own personal ATM Machine," says Mr. Burton.
