MAKATARONGANON BA’NG ARMASAN ANG MGA
PISKAL
Since time immemorial, the issue on whether allowing anybody to possess a firearm is justified has been hounding us as a matter needing extreme evaluation and appraisal.
The proposal of DOJ Menardo Guevarra
to arm public prosecutors is timely considering that he is new to the job. He
must have sensed the urgency with which to justify his men to defend themselves
from criminal elements.
Truly, I can see the justification of
DOJ Guevarra's suggestion. It is borne out of equanimity and wisdom of a true
gentleman who looks after the welfare and plight of his subordinates. He holds the helm of a government agency which
prosecutes and sends criminals to jail.
Drilon and others who are in opposed
to DOJ Guevarra's suggestion must realize that grandstanding and politicking
are subservient to the interest of those who risk life and limb because of
honest to goodness public service. It's not about who's who in issuing
statements to be quoted in broadsheets, but it is for the sake of those who are
silently working and facing immense threat from the criminals. Clearly, DOJ Guevarra
intends to strengthen the prosecutors who
give their all for the sake of preserving law and order in performing
their official functions.
Arming the prosecutors at this
point may not be the perfect solution to
stave off the rising tide of criminality. However, it appears to be the best
way to protecting those who are in the forefront of seeing to it that justice
remains unsullied in this most critical times of our nation's history.
After all, abnormal times, require abnormal remedies.
