The latest twist into the news account concerning the death of a student shopper took another turn when Margie Gaser,  female guard of Gaizano Metro Colon recanted her earlier testimony that she apprehended Mario Alfie Ducayag, 23,  a father of two, when he was about to leave the store but instead said Ducayag was nabbed by security guards when he returned to the cashier at counter 7 to look for the receipt of the pair of sandals (worth P395.00) that he bought. "Gaser said she was instructed by chief security officer Mauricio Doblados Jr. and security guard Melvin Boyles to tell any investigator that she apprehended Ducayag while the latter was headed out of the mall and was stopped for failure to show a receipt," NBI Agent Bernard dela Cruz told Cebu Daily News. Gaser, he said, admitted that her earlier statement about Ducayag's arrest was "fabricated." It was found out Ducayag went back to counter 7 of Metro Gaizano-Colon to look for the receipt of the pair of sandals he purportedly purchased. Aside from the sandals, Ducayag also bought infant milk formula and other food items.  Since Ducayag could not explain why he didn't have any receipt for the sandals, dela Cruz said, mall supervisor Juvelyn Magdadaro instead called the assistance of the security guards who acted as mall detectives. It was the mall detectives who brought Ducayag to the store's investigation room to the 4th floor where he was allegedly mauled to death. "Malayo-layo pa tayo. 

Now Doblados, Boyles, and Jeffrey Aquino have been pointing fingers at each other as to who actually mauled the victim. We will ask all of them to appear before the NBI," he said. The feeling of impunity by which the security guards conducted their "interrogation" with understandable unlimited discretion to kill the "subject" at any time of the investigation points out to one nagging question that this could not be the first time they did it. The fact that there was a ready answer to exculpate the "murderers" from any liability could best be explained by the autopsy report easily handed down by Dr. Nestor Satur, medico-legal officer of PNP Regional Crime Laboratory who declared the victim died of natural death he described as, "Tuberculosis." The "planned getaway" from  any criminal liability of the attackers was  unfortunately stopped by the insistence of the student's mother Fe Soledad, a widow, to seek help from the NBI where after the autopsy performed by its two medico-legal officers, it was found out the victim died of "neck injuries," resulting from severe mauling.
