We do not question the original restrictions imposed to those seniors who have been enjoying the cash assistance but the news about the plan hatched by OSCA head Rolando Llaguno to control the number of senior citizens registering in the city so they can likewise avail of cash assistance given to the elderly and which is supported by Mayor Mike Rama is, by itself, alarming. Why make additional restrictions to limit the number of seniors when their basic qualification is their city residence and, of course, principally it is  based on the age requirement of 60.

If they want to change the rule of the game because they are afraid they can no longer cope up with the corresponding financial requirements to meet the growing number of seniors, why not totally scrap the idea of giving cash assistance to  seniors if they want to save money? They should be actually honest to themselves and to the seniors concerned, whose only desire is to get something for them to spend for their necessary medication as they advance in age, and let's see what happens if the seniors will rise up in arms against them in the city hall, if the mayor will still get himself elected in the next mayoral election in 2016!
