Kaban ni D_BystandeR: KON IPAHAMTANG NA ANG HUKOM

Sentencing a 41-year old Rebecca Estrada to life-term imprisonment with a fine of P3M for allegedly trying to bring 3 minors (one was still 14 years old at the time) to Bulacan province in 2007 for purposes of prostitution is too much. Just because the convicted woman is a nobody, the corresponding sentence appeared to be harsh and cruel.

It reminds me of another woman from  one of the southern Cebu towns who was convicted and sentenced to serve life imprisonment just because she was arrested for 6 small packets of shabu. We would have appreciated our courts giving that harsh punishment if it involves people with political clout, power and influence. The courts are only "quick to the draw" when the "smallfries" are the ones involved. And they do not even feel any qualm to that kind of "harsh" judgment they give. Look at what some politicians get after they were charged with plunder, a non-bailable offense, for the PDAF which put to waste P10B of taxpayers' money. And where are the lawmakers now involved in "pocketing" a big portion of that horrendous amount of P10B? They are still free as a bird and they are all "scot-free" and we don't have any idea if they will ever be finally slammed with this kind of harsh judgment that "small fries" are easily getting from our courts  - "life sentences!"
