Kaban ni D_BystandeR: MGA MANOBO, GIPAANTOS, GIPIG-OTAN UG KAPUY-AN
I read the news and I find it
informative and well-written. While it is true that there are some points where
you find some facts portrayed did not jibe with what is considered
geographically correct, like for example, the claim that the typhoon was
"building up its fury somewhere in South China Sea," but in its
totality, I still agree that the news report has somehow fulfilled to picture
in the most proximate manner the grim reality affecting the Manobos tribe of
72, which, from whatever angle you view, it is a sad spectacle of how a once
dominant tribe has become an example of how our government has poorly neglected them just like
treating them to let them survive on their own efforts. They build their place
which was once a barren land and transformed it into what now has become a
desirable place to live principally through their own resourcefulness. And with the vast tract of land that their forefathers used to occupy and
to roam around their place as the recognized rulers before, now they are
reduced to the status of "informal settlers" where the moneyed
investors known as the new settlers are now the ones calling the shots while
the Manobos are only given 200 acres which, only amounts to an area less than 5
hectares, i.e., if my computation is right. But if you think you can write
better and accurate compared to the author of this news report, why not try
your own "know-how" to become a reporter and let's see how good you
write without any "blunder."
Footnote: This
comment came out in reply to someone's posting who calls himself "alisto 101"
who showed his "irritating"
dislike to what he called as "blatant" distortion of
"facts" because typhoon
Yolanda was reported in the news to have exited through the "South China
Sea" but not building up "its fury" in the South China Sea
before entering the Philippines. He appeared somewhat correct in that point but
to dismiss the whole thing and condemning it as a "distortion of
facts" is way beyond his normal and reasonable reaction which I consider
as an "insult" to the author of that news report. The news item,
entitled "1 year after Yolanda, Manobos rebuilding lives, farms,"
appeared in Philstar on 11/22/14.
