It's a big blow to the peaceful desire of the natives of Boracay to assert their ownership rights of a piece of land with a small area of only 2.1 hectares which was given to them on Jan 21, 2011 with the necessary papers to support their claim of ownership. A certain Dexter Condez, 26, one of the tribal leaders and himself a spokesperson of their group was gunned down Friday night on his way home with two other tribal leaders by an unidentified gunman who fled the scene after pumping six bullets to the victim. It's a wanton display of what could be seen as a brazen act of committing a crime to harass and intimidate the endangered specie of local natives who once owned the place of Boracay Island with a total land area of 1,032 hectares. And now because of "greed of money
and power" the natives are in the brink of losing even that small portion of land given to them as a "token" covered by certificate of ancestral domain title (CADT) by the government under the National Commission of Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) but appeared to be violated of their ownership rights by some businessmen without a conscience.
The government should protect the rights of these people and show its concern to this travesty of justice by punishing those involved whoever is found liable with the full force of the law.
